How we count clicks

Every billboard on this wall shows a click count. Here is exactly what that number means, because every other board in this category publishes a counter and none of them publish a methodology.

What counts

What we store

A salted SHA-256 hash of your IP address and user agent, the referring page, and a country code if our CDN supplies one. We never store a raw IP address. The hash exists only to deduplicate clicks and cannot be reversed to identify you.

Uncounted clicks are still recorded

When a click is rejected we record it with the reason. That means the arithmetic is auditable rather than a number we assert. If an advertiser asks us to justify their count, we can.

What a click is not

A click is a visit, not a customer. We do not claim these visitors are qualified, in-market, or likely to buy. Cost per click on this wall is published for every board so you can judge that for yourself.
